US warns of severe criminal penalties for illegal immigration
The US has warned Indian citizens of severe criminal penalties for entering the country illegally and violating US laws.
On Tuesday, the US Embassy in India made it clear that the crackdown on illegal immigration is a top priority of the Trump administration.
The US Embassy said in a statement on the social media platform X (X) that if anyone breaks US law, they will face serious criminal consequences, while the US is committed to protecting its borders and citizens.
The warning comes at a time when US-India relations are tense. The major reasons for this include US President Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian products and US contact with Pakistan after the Indo-Pakistan tension in May.
According to the report, the US has not issued any such public warning for citizens of other countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar or China.
